US media: behind the astonishing figures of China’s textile industry

The US "Women's Wear Daily" article on May 31, original title: Insights into China: China's textile industry, from large to strong, is the largest in the world in terms of total output, export volume and retail sales. The annual output of fiber alone reaches 58 million tons, accounting for more than 50% of the world's total output; the export value of textiles and clothing reaches 316 billion US dollars, accounting for more than 1/3 of the global total export; the retail scale exceeds 672 billion US dollars... Behind these figures is China's huge textile industry supply. Its success stems from a solid foundation, continuous innovation, development of new technologies, pursuit of green strategies, understanding of global trends, substantial investment in research and development, and personalized and flexible production.

Since 2010, China has become the world's largest manufacturing country for 11 consecutive years, and it is also the only country that plays an important role in all industries. Statistics show that 5 of China's 26 manufacturing industries rank among the most advanced in the world, among which the textile industry is in a leading position.

Take the example of a Chinese company (Shenzhou International Group Holdings Limited) that operates the world’s largest garment processing facility. The company produces about 2 million garments per day in its factories in Anhui, Zhejiang and Southeast Asia. It is the world’s leading sportswear One of the key OEMs of the brand. Keqiao District, Shaoxing City, also located in Zhejiang Province, is the largest textile trade gathering place in the world. Nearly a quarter of the world's textile products are traded locally. Last year's online and offline transaction volume reached 44.8 billion US dollars. This is just one of many textile clusters in China. In Yaojiapo Village near Tai'an City, Shandong Province, more than 30 tons of fabrics are ordered every day to produce 160,000 pairs of long johns. As industry experts say, there is no country in the world that has such a rich, systematic and complete textile industry chain as China. It not only has upstream raw material supply (including petrochemical and agriculture), but also has all the subdivision industries in each textile chain.

From cotton to fiber, from weaving to dyeing and production, a piece of clothing goes through hundreds of processes before reaching consumers. Therefore, even now, the textile industry is still a labor-intensive industry. China is the world's largest cotton-producing country, with thousands of years of textile production history. With the help of demographic characteristics, strong labor force and opportunities brought by its accession to the WTO, China has continuously provided the world with high-quality and cheap clothing.
